Online visitors to explore the world of geoscience

Geoscience Australia has collated a series
of movies and science talks to
provide a taste of the agency's work as
part of National Science Week.

The opportunity to experience a virtual meeting with the country's top geoscientists, learn about life working in Antarctica, and get the facts on dinosaurs, is available to all Australians via Geoscience Australia's virtual Open Day.

The virtual Open Day content showcases Geoscience Australia's wide range of work, and the impact geology and geography has on our everyday lives. It extends to all Australians the opportunity to participate in Geoscience Australia's Open Day which takes place physically in Canberra on Sunday 24 August.

"Open Day is a wonderful avenue for us to share our activities and expertise that help build knowledge of our land and marine environments, our natural resources and the impact that natural hazards have on our communities," said Dr James Johnson, Deputy CEO.

This year's virtual Open Day content includes live-streamed and on-demand science talks, and a range of videos featuring interesting aspects of the Agency's work such as the many uses of satellite imagery and what it's like to be a graduate at Geoscience Australia.

"Taking Open Day online recognises our role as Australia's national geoscience agency and aims to build community interest in our work by increasing public accessibility," Dr Johnson added.

Geoscience Australia's annual Open Day is a National Science Week feature event. A range of Open Day online content is currently available at: Open Day for virtual visitors. Talks will be live-streamed via this webpage between 10.30am-2.30pm on Sunday 24 August and will remain available for viewing on-demand after this date.
